Born in 1986 in Romania, Paul Barbu was always fascinated by art as a way of expressing emotions. Ever since childhood, Paul liked to draw and create different compositions with ordinary objects at hand or found objects.
Paul studied Sculpture at the University of Arts in Bucharest, Prof. Darie Dup's class, then followed a master's degree in plastic arts at the Kingston School of Art, London. As a professional training, Paul is a sculptor and architect. Some of his works can be found on his personal page, www.paulbarbu.com or admired even in the artist's workshop.
In the last 10 years, Paul has worked in the field of architecture and art, experimenting with different shapes, proportions, compositions and colors. The artistic direction followed by Paul has as its starting point the relation of artistic works with the exhibition space that surrounds them (site-specific art). The goal is to facilitate a dynamic physical experience for the viewer, a departure from the usual contemplative-static experience found, for example, in the case of painting. The installations created by Paul represent a unitary composition both between the materials, colors and processes used, as well as between the exhibited works and the space approached. All the artist's works are part of a universe called "Uluq". This universe includes gods, wizards, fantastic creatures, plants and mythological birds.
Currently, Paul is working together with a young writer from London on the development of a fantastic mythology, in the style of Lord of the Rings, the initiative that will materialize in the writing of a book of stories.
