Radu Solovastru, born in 1957 in Targu Mures, Transylvania, is a PhD Professor at the University of Art and Design in Cluj Napoca, Romania; mastering all classical and recent drawing and graphic techniques, the artist has been working at the limit of the taboo during the last decades, studying the intersection between death and eroticism within a cultural frame, and yet in a highly direct manner of expression.
Glycemic. The Beginning solo show by Radu Solovastru continues the artistic and philosophical research of the Cluj School Professor in a new direction and with the means of a completely new art material – marzipan! – by which drawing becomes a volumetric quest and the limits of materiality are provoked in themselves.
The show conceived especially for Zorzini Gallery comprises unseen and completely unexpected pieces created in marzipan during the last two years, which take the recent history of art one step further on the glycemic and artistic scale… (Adina Zorzini)
